Programme
Edward Elgar Cello Concerto in E minor op. 85
Sergej Prokof'ev Romeo & Juliet. Suite

In 1919, Elgar had abandoned himself to the elegiac song of the cello in a final homage to Romantic intimacy. Two decades later, Prokof’ev would mark a turning point in the 20th century by transforming Shakespeare’s tragedy into a vibrant and powerfully plastic ballet: from England to Stalinist Russia, Claus Peter Flor will narrate the tensions of the 20th century between two wars, constantly balanced between tradition and modernity, past and future, and always in search of its own language.
