Vladimir Jurowski, conductor
Vladimir Jurowski was born in Moscow and began studying music in his home town, first with his father and then at the Conservatoire.  In 1990 he completed his training at the schools of music in Dresden and Berlin. At the same time, he began working intensely as assistant conductor in various German opera houses and in 1993, at just twenty-one years of age, he was appointed resident conductor of the «Sibelius» Symphony Orchestra of Berlin, where he remained until 1996.
 
During 1995 he conducted various operatic performances at the Komische Oper in Berlin and several symphony concerts with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi and the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna. In 1997 he made his début at the Florentine Music Festival. During the same year he was warmly acclaimed at his first endeavour at the Rossini Opera Festival.
 
Vladimir Jurowski has made many recordings for the German label Ecm including the first ever recording (1994) of the cantata Exil by the Georgian composer Giya Kancheli, for BMG and a CD of music by Milhaud, Debussy and Tomasi for Arte Nova (1999).
This year he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi and the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, and Musical Director of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

He was recently awarded the Premio Abbiati by the Italian Association of Music Critics.
