Damiano Michieletto, director
Damiano Michieletto was born in Venice in 1975. He graduated in theatre directing from the Paolo Grassi School of Dramatic Arts in Milan and in modern literature from the Cā Foscari University in Venice. He directed a series of one act plays, QUARTETTO CAMPANILE, by Achille Campanile (Teatro al Parco, Mestre 2002) and a contemporary treatment of the 16th Century Venetian comedian Ruzante's LA BETĖA (Festival Teatro in Campo, Venice 2002).
During this period (2002) he also started directing music theatre and opera, staging L'HISTOIRE DU SOLDAT by Stravinsky, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, THE CARNEVAL OF THE ANIMALS and Britten's NOYE'S FLUDDE for the Auditorium di Milano, as well as IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA for the Wexford Festival Opera Scenes.
His made his mainstage opera debut at the Wexford Festival Opera in 2003 with a popular and critically acclaimed production of SVANDA DUDĀK which was awarded Opera Production of the Year in the Irish Times/ESB Theatre Awards for 2003. In 2004 directing credits include the farce IL TRIONFO DELLE BELLE for the Rossini Opera Festival, and in 2005 IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA in Fiesole for Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, I FINTI FILOSOFI by Spontini for the Festival Pergolesi Spontini and FALSTAFF for the English Touring Opera. During the 2005/6 season he staged the contemporary opera BEAUTY AND THE BEAST written by Marco Tutino for the Teatro Comunale di Modena, his production of IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA will be touring to China and he staged another critically acclaimed opera, IL DISSOLUTO PUNITO by Ramon Carnicer for il Festival Mozart in Coruņa, Spain.
