Radovan Vlatkovic
Radovan Vlatkovic is one of the most acclaimed horn players of his generation. Born in Zagreb in 1962, he completed his studies with Prof. Prerad Deticek at the Zagreb Academy of Music and with Prof. Michael Höltzel at the Music Academy in Detmold (Germany). After having held the post of principal Horn with the Radio Symphonie Orchester Berlin (1982 - 1990) he started to pursue a solo career appearing in all continents and performing up to eighty concerts each season. Radovan Vlatkovic has won many first prizes in National and International music competitions, including the Premio Ancona in 1979 and the ARD Competition in Munich in 1983 - the first to be awarded to a horn player for fourteen years. This has led to numerous invitations to music festivals in Europe, United States, Canada, Israel and Australia, as well as regular appearances in Japan. From 1992 to 1998 he held the position as Horn Professor at the Stuttgart Musikhochschule. In 1998 he took up the position of Professor at the renowned Mozarteum in Salzburg as well as a Guest Professor at the Conservatorio Reina Sofia in Madrid. Radovan Vlatkovic has appeared with many of the most prestigious symphony and chamber orchestras including the Symphonie Orchester der Bayer. Rundfunks, Münchner Kammerorchester, Santa Cecilia Roma, ORT Firenze, OSN della RAI Torino, Berlin Radio Symphony, BBC Symphony, English Chamber , Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Scottish Chamber, Camerata Accademica Salzburg, Mozarteum, Australian Chamber, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony. In Japan, he has performed with the NHK Symphony, Yomiuri Symphony, Tokyo Metropolitan, Nagoya and Sendai Orchestras. He has also appeared as soloist, in recitals and chamber music series at the Bukaikan, Kioi and Casals Halls in Tokyo and at the Kurashiki Festival. As chamber musician he is very much in demand and performs regularly with Andràs Schiff, Heinz Holliger, Elmar Schmid and Klaus Thunemann, has collaborated with Vladimir Ashkenazy, Gidon Kremer, Aurèle Nicolet, Mtsilav Rostropovich and Kristian Zimermann. In 2000 he was appointed Artistic Director of the September Chamber Music Festival in Maribor, Slovenia. Radovan Vlatkovic has played world premiere performances of works by Elliot Carter, Sofia Gubaidulina, Heinz Holliger and Krisztof Penderecki and several croatian composers who have written concertosfor him. His numerous recordings include the Mozart and Strauss Horn concertos with the English Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jeffrey Tate, works by Saint-Säens with the Ensemble Orchestre de Paris and Jean-Jacques Kantorow, the Britten Serenade for Tenor, Horn and strings with Neil Jenkins and the Oriol Ensemble Berlin, the Concerto for two Horns by Leopold Mozart and J. F. Fasch with Hermann Baumann and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields directed by Iona Brown. He has recorded for the following labels EMI, DECCA, Philips, Deutsche Grammophon and DENON. Radovan Vlatkovic plays a full double horn Model 20M made by Paxman in London.
